The vision of Knitting Peace is to empower women incarcerated in Bolivia to continue to support their families with their talents and work. By providing the women the opportunity to engage in work they can be proud of, they are able to provide for themselves and their families, as well as engage in therapeutic healing work through the art of knitting. Knitting Peace stands for fair wage opportunities in order to promote individual and community empowerment, long-term economic development and poverty alleviation. Knitting Peace believes that by increasing prosperity in international communities we can contribute to the peace and harmony across the planet. In assisting these women to achieve peace and prosperity through their work; we are contributing to the worlds overall peace and prosperity. Knitting Peace is a social enterprise created to provide opportunities of poverty alleviation and healing to Bolivian women who are currently incarcerated and in need of work. Living within a Bolivian correctional facility is financially draining; the inmates must continue to provide for themselves and in most cases continue to provide for their own children. Due to the extreme levels of poverty in Bolivia children whose parent is incarcerated have few options. One option is to reside in the correctional facility with their parent. It is essential for these women to work in order to provide for themselves and their families, as well as to feel empowered to earn money honestly, transcending any limiting beliefs regarding their potential and freedom to choose.
